.32spl interchange w/32h&r mag???
I've seen several winchester rifles chambered for .32special, and my question is can .32special be fired in a .32h&r magnum revolver??? Can it be made from trimmed down .32h&r mag brass?
Basically I have a Ruger Single Six in .32H&R and would like to have a rifle I could fire the same cartridge in.
If it cant be done, then do you think it would be safe or even possible to rechamber a winchester .32spl Rifle in .32H&R mag?
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

NO. 32H&R Mag. uses a .312 dia. bullet and the 32 Spl. uses a .321 dia. bullet. Also, the 32 Spl. C.O.L is 2.565" and the 32H&R Mag. C.O.L. is 1.350" These cartridges are not similar in any way other than having 32 in their name. 0 -
The .32 special is a 30-30 necked up to take .321 diameter bullets. The .32 H&R Magnum is a stretched .32 S&W long.
As for your desire for a .32 mag rifle. I've always considered the same thing. I'm thinking about having a Uberti 22 Hornet rolling block rebored. It would kind of be a modern version of a rook rifle.

leeblackman: I just sold my ruger in 32mag and have a few things left over , a few empty cases in 32 mag and 32 s&w long and also a very nice shoulder holster, very reasonable if you are interested drop me a line at gskyhawk2002@yahoo.com 0 -
Sorry to step on your topic, Lee, but given what woodsrunner said, I would assume you can shoot .32 S&W Long in a .32 H&R Mag. revolver. Am I correct?

Gravedigger, you can shoot the .32 longs out of a .32 Mag. and also .32 ACPs.I have two .32 mags. A S&W Mod 16 & a Charter Arms Bulldog.I shoot them all out of these two guns.

You may also fire .32 Smith & Wesson (the shorter round) in a .32 Magnum. Don't know what kind of accuracy you'd get but for "field expediency" it would work.
However ... DO NOT fire any .32 Long Colt or .32 Short Colt ammunition in any firearm chambered for .32 S&W Long or Magnum.
The .32 Long and Short Colt cases are smaller in diameter. Fire them in a .32 S&W Long chamber and the cases will bulge horrifically and might even split, spraying hot gas back in your face.
I reload for a Marlin Model 1892 lever action rifle in .32 Long Colt caliber.
I also own a Colt revolver in .32 Colt New Police (Colt's name for the .32 S&W Long, because they didn't want to mention their strongest competitor).
At gun shows, I occasionally find .32 Long Colt cartridges mixed in with loose lots of .32 S&W Long. I point out the problem to the seller and offer to buy them for 10 cents each. Most sellers are glad to be informed and let the few I find go at that price.
The .32 Smith & Wesson Long is interchangeable with the .32 Colt New Police. Headstamps for both are usually 32 S&W L or 32 COLT NP.
The .32 Long Colt and the .32 Short Colt are entirely different cartridges.
The confusion stems from the word "Colt" in both cartridges.
.32 Long Colt cartridges will typically be headstamped 32 LC, 32 COLT, or 32 L.
Keep this in mind when buying loose ammo for your .32 S&W Long or H&R 32 Magnum.
Incidentally, you're right. The .32 Auto may be fired in any revolver chambered for .32 S&W Long or .32 Colt New Police. The .32 Auto is not truly rimless, there's a bit of a rim there to keep it from slipping through the chamber.
The .32 Auto full metal jacket round makes a dandy grouse and rabbit load. It usually isn't extremely accurate in the .311 to .314" bores of most .32 revolvers, but at close range it puts down a grouse or rabbit and damages very little meat.
