Olympic PCR4 kit
I'm surprised to learn that the pre-ban configuration of the Olympic PCR4 kit is available from their website. If these brand new kits are still available for sale now, why are they called "pre-ban"? And can I use the stripped lower receivers on auction on this site with this pre-ban configuration? Or would I just be better off with ordering a post-ban kit? Thanks for any help.

The pre-ban kit are for use on preban recivers only according to batf
that is a good way to end up in a ton of trouble
if you want to get a preban reciver and then build a preban gun you may...if the reciver was shiped out orginaly as a saw
otherwise just get a postban and save yourself the trouble

Crawdog, Preban kits are for sale for use on Preban rifles and receivers only! The rifle/receiver must have been produced prior to the 1994 ban. I doubt that any of the receivers on the site are preban, if they were they'd bring a premiun price and the seller would be talking them up big time! The reason these kit are still offerd for sale is because the parts company/manufactures are allowed to supply them as spares for any preban rifle/receivers still in circulation. Frankly at this stage of the game I doubt that there are ANY preban receivers out there that have not already been turned into completed firearms.
Better go the POSTBAN route and keep out of trouble. Once the ban went into effect the ATF received the serial numbers of the last legal preban guns and receivers made from the then current manufactures so this information is known and available. I once had a customer pay big money for a Bushmaster receiver which the seller (NOT ME!) claimed was preban. A quick call to Bushmaster revealed that
it was a post ban receiver. Money lost and never recovered on that
deal. Imagine going into small claims court and arguing about how you got screwed because you can't put a bayonet , flash hider, or grenade launcher on the rilfe you bought! I'm sure the judge would not be too sympathetic no mater how strong your case.

Thanks for the reply. I kind of figured that would be the case. I don't need any more trouble than what usually finds me.

I'm not going to name any names, but I know more people than I'd like to mention who are commiting federal offenses as we speak by owning pre-ban configuration rifles built on post ban recievers. I don't know if they know it or not, but its not really the crowd that you start talking about stuff like that and I haven't really had the oppurtunity to take anyone individually to the side and explain to them what they are doing can land them with some serious fine'age and/or prison time.
But I highly advise that you don't attempt the following ignorant statement I'm about to make, because I have no respect for certain firearms laws that exist I am making this statement to vent my supressed anger.
If hypothetically you constructed an illegal configured gun, the ATF does not have the manpower to enforce the current firearms laws let alone go out and search for people offending this one, so unless you commited an otherwise serious federal offense that brought federal attention to yourself, no one will probably hassle you. They never told us anything about enforcing federal firearms regulations in the police acadamy, just state ones, and in Texas, there isn't any assault arms ban, thats federal, so we don't mess with that.
Now I am by no means telling you to make an illegal gun or anything like that, I'm just taking this opportunity to express my oppinion, which is not factual by any means, nor is it adviseable.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
