    Hi Woopie,
I usually cut mine or have it cut 2.25" to 2.5" thick. This gives me a little working room and some stocks are wider, of course, than others. Usually 7" minimum on width and length is 4' to 8' depending on what it looks like when I get done (grin). Let me know if I can help on your project.
    Hope this helps,
    Scott

i'd suggest cutting 3" thick, after drying you'll have about 2.75". the extra thickness is needed for a rollover cheek piece or a cast-off stock. also find some one with a band saw mill (woodmiser, ect.) they don't turn 1/4 of the wood into sawdust like a circular blade mill will.

Woopie, I would be interested in a stock blank. I was wondering, shouldn't you quarter saw the wood for blanks? Gives better grain pattern than straight sawing. Emery

    Woopie,
Sounds like a fitting end for your deceased tree. I too would be interested in a blank if you have enough.
