top break 5 shot revolver ID's and info
i am happily awaiting the arrival of a Blue Wonder sample. to test the product i have chosen two revolvers with the permission of the local gunshop owner were i work part time. i would like to know some background on the pieces in question before rebluing.
1. top of barrel: U.S. REVOLVER Co
2. exposed hammer 5 shot revolver
3. 3 1/8 inch barrel
4. .38 S&W
5. SERIAL NUMBER 25287
6. fixed blade front sight/notch rear
7. functions on single or double action with no half cock
8. owls head logo at top of grip pannels, IJ in a circle logo on sides.(black plastic)
this gun has great rifling with crisp and clear barrel and clean lands and grooves. it functions correctly, and beyond the usual wear and tear marks looks good. the bluing is mostly gone, shading to a brown patina.

this gun has very good rifling, the barrel is okay, with decent,deep lands and grooves. it functions correctly, looks okay as far as wear and tear. the finish is almost completly gone, with a dulled matte gray mettalic look to it.
when were they made??? what are they worth??? any other info???
What other dungeon is so dark as ones own heart, what jailer so inexorable as ones own mind.

Capt. Kirk described the U.S. revolver in a post yesterday for a fellow who inherited one from his grandfather: "Saturday night special, turn of the century, cost $4-$5, collector value...$50".
Your second revolver is an Iver johnson Safety Hammer Model. These were made between 1892 and 1950...perhaps one million manufactured!
I have no idea if anyone can even guess how many of these IJ revolvers were built but they turn up all over the world. On one of my visits to Bulgaria several years back I was shown a IJ breaktop by an old gentleman who has kept it hidden from both the communists and the new democratic government. Value runs from $50 to $100 depending on condition. I noticed that dealer and collector interest in these old breaktops dropped off when UPS began their overnight air shippment requierment for handguns. I wish EVERYONE described their guns as well as you did in your post.

i guess i realy would like to make sure i do not ruin a gun with a high value or a rare piece with collectors intrest. i am going to test out my blue wonder samples when they arrive, and let everyone know of my progress and results(does anyone care?). i would hate to damage or deface a "good" piece. are these good pieces for my experiment? just looking for some feedback.

i can identify the two revolvers as to year of manufacture if you can funish a little more information:
1. type of revolver top break or solid frame
2. letter code accompaning serial number under the left grip panel
(aor the lack of a letter code under the left grip panel)
3. markings on the bottom of the butt

1. you get them in the front
2. you get the guys on the side of you from the lead comming out the sides of the cylinder
3. you get large forearms with the 20 lbs trigger pull.

sorry to ruin your joke but the iver johnson safety hammerless revolver was never chambered for the .38 spl. only the .22 rimfire, .32 s&w, .32s&w long and the .38 s&w
for general information the safety automatic hammerless revolver in .22 rimfire chambers only the .22 short and .22 long and is quite rare
