9 mm vs .40 cal???
A couple of weeks ago I told my "gun guy" (a small local dealer) that I wanted a Springfield XD V10 (having seen them on their web site in .40 or .357 Sig, I really did not care which) so I left him my Taurus Tracker in .22 WMR to sell for me and told him I would buy the XD when the wheel gun sold.
Well the Taurus is sold (good riddance as I now know I am an auto guy) but the pistol he has for me is an XD V10 in 9 mm! We really did not talk specific calibres so I feel obligated to buy the pistol but as I already have a Ruger 9 I was looking for something different.
If I buy the ported 9 am I giving up much in not having a .40 or a .357 Sig?? Why doesn't Springfield show this on their web site??
This small dealer cannot afford to hold my mistakes but is there really much difference??

If your that unsure of getting another 9mm, Hold off til you think things through. If your leaning towards the 40 cal, See if he can send the 9mm back and exchange it for a 40 cal, Perhaps offer him a bribe for doing this, Such as paying shipping both ways, price of a phone call, and a twelve pak.
A 40 has more punch then a 9mm, And a 357 sig is the same or a tad more then a 40 cal.
9mm is getting harder to resell due to the populararity of the 40 cal, So keep that in mind.
Another comment, I cant believe that 9mm was such a popular cal as it once was, I cant figure out why 38 super never became more popular with the gun manufacturers then it did, perhaps if the 38 super would have been introduced stronger by the gun manufactures, the 40 and 357 sig would have never been ???

If you really want a 40 or 357 sig, let him know that. No use getting stuck with something you don't really want. It's YOUR money. 0 -
I think in this case your Dealer should have discussed this with you.You still have a nice gun,and you can later opt to buy a .40S&W or the .357sig.
Best!!

HOTRODUSA HAS GOT THE RIGHT IDEA, BY THE WAY DID THIS DEALER SELL YOU THE RUGER 9M/M? IF SO HE KNOWS YOU HAVE A 9M/M. HE SHOULD HAVE ASK YOU WHAT CALIBER YOU WANTED, HAVE HIM GET YOU WHAT YOU WANT. GO FOR THE 40 S&W............ 0 -
The only reason for the popularity of the 9mm round is it's use by NATO. 0 -
I've been in plenty of these situations, nothing in life ever seems to go smoothly for me, there's always a challenge life likes to throw at me.
My advice thru my learning thru my experiences have told me that if you want something bad enough, you get it, otherwise your just going to have to live with a compromise.
So ask yourself how badly you want it. From what I can determine thru this monotone method of communicating, I'm guessing you really wanted a .40. And the very best thing is to always be honest, tell the dealer that you really wanted a .40 not a 9mm, and your sorry for the misconception. I'm sure after 5 minutes on the phone with his distributor/supplier, and he's have that one on its way back and a fresh 40 on its way to you. Just make sure to specify exactly which one, model #'s help alot. If he gets stuck with it, he won't have it for long, and he probably knows that. And just to support what I'm saying, I've had dealers send guns back, and I've recieved guns that I could tell were repackaged, and when I'd ask the dealer if he'd opened it yet to get the serial # off, and he says "nope, it just came in 20minutes ago and haven't got a chance" thats when I get him to call the company he got it from and find out that it was a restocked item. That also will on occasion when it happens, save you another $20 if you've got a good dealer who know how to handle suppliers.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

If you don't want it, don't take it. It's your money- and when we're talking about a Springfield XD, that's no small amount!

Excuse me, I was wrong. I said the XD was expensive- not compared to some, I guess. The last one I saw was customized, and it was priced at over $1300. I must have been thinking of that, for some reason. Actually, regular XD's look fairly affordable! Buy two!

OK, I prefer the .40 over the 9mm BUT.. the 9 is alot cheaper to shoot AND a good solid torso hit with the 9 will hurt a felon pretty bad.
I'd take the 9 since I gather that you want to do the right thing by your dealer. If you still want a .40 in two years I seriously doubt that you'll get hurt to bad, and you might want to keep the 9mm anyway.0 -
Tell him you want the 40s+w. If you don't, your just like the guy in the commercial where the waitress wipes the mustard off his samdwich on the edge of the table.
When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....0 -
(that was mayo, not mustard)
