I recently purchased a 1917 U.S. Enfield, eddystone, in excellent condition. I am aware that there have been problems with the reciever cracking on these, due to brittleness. Is there a way to check these for safety, or they all to dangerous to shoot and only good for wall hangers? Any advice welcome. Thanks, Dan

    janritch,
There is really a great deal of additional information required.
Original finish was blue. Your circle P on the stock would indicate a rebuild. Original stock will only have the tip marked, in your case should be "E", an eagle in front of the trigger guard and sometimes
some numbers in back of the triggerguard. Consideration must be taken
on bore condition. Further, is the gun an import marked item?
Usually on the barrel. The small e's indicate Eddystone also.
You may wish to go to the following site as they have a 1917 Enfield
    Forum. www.jouster.com
WW11 rebuilt guns are parkerized vs blue. Prices are all over the place. Best 101
