Yes, your numbers are correct - 17 cu. ft. I have 27 cu. ft. and my dealer suggested a 24" rod. That suggests a 15" rod for you. I would go with the 18" model. I don't think that you a go too big.

    Lightning93,

Judging by the dimensions of your safe you have a standard size model. My Browning safe is similar in size and I have an 18" GoldenRod dehumidifier in it and it fits perfectly.
The dehumidifier will feel hot to the touch but there is no danger of it overheating your safe. It should come with a pair of stand-offs which will keep it off the interior fabric.
The air in the interior of my safe feels just slightly warm.

If you want to find out everything there is to know about GoldenRods, check out their website:

I don't think you'll have any problems storing your firearms safely.

Go with the 18" As Blokey said, don't worry about overheating. These thing get warm but not so hot that you can't grab them for a couple of seconds.

I have big safes (Fort Knox) and run a 18 inch golden rod and a 60 watt light bulb in them. Light goes off in the summer, I keep the rod plugged in year around. The safes are in a heated garage.
