Throat Erosion on Garands
Could someone please tell me what this is and what is an acceptable range for a good shooter. Thanks.

Throat Erosion is erosion in the throat of the chamber, caused by firing. This may be measured by gauge and Brownells sellls them.
I prefer a barrel with a TE of two and under. Muzzle Wear is actually
the "killer" in accuracy. This may be also measured by gauge. Most
MW is caused by the use of jointed steel cleaning rods. Some use a bullet to test the MW. I believe the acceptable TE is just under five.

Thanks guys. Got a good lead on 1943 springfield with TE of 3. I'm looking for a shooter, and not as much a collectible. Thanks again. 0 -
Using a bullet to measure muzzle wear is only approximate, but is better than nothing. Use a round of M2 ball ammo; insert the pointed end in the muzzle. If you see 3/16" of copper jacket showing, that's a great barrel. 1/8" of copper jacket showing will shoot OK, but not for competition. If the round goes in up to the case, the barrel needs replacement.
