Kel-Tek 9mm vs. .40

Kel-tec stopped making the .40 as far as I know. And from personal experience I'd lean towards the 9mm. In my opinion the .40 was horribley uncomfortable and unpleasant to shoot. The recoil was hard because the gun is so light. And I usually handle recoil ok considering I shoot alot of .45.

I think since you may want to keep the same cartridge for all your guns and stick with a .40, unless your willing to compromise, you should look up another tree. Say maybe an all stainless Kahr 40, or mini-glock 27.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Lee thanks for the input. I don't want the Glock. I have a G-23 and I really enjoy it but the 27 is too light and I didn't enjoy shooting it. I haven't looked into the Kahr yet, but I will definitely do so before I decide.

The Taurus P140 is pleasant to shoot in .40 caliber. And the Taurus offers a life time warranty.

I have a p40 chrome slide and I 9mm that I installed a 40 S&W conversion kit on. I carry one of these in a pocket holster all the time. I have no trouble shooting these. The early p40 guns tried to use the 9mm magazines, and did have some jamming problems. You should take a look at the Kel-tec owners group web sight. They have a good write-up on the history of the p40 magazine problems.

    Hello ,
I own (and "carry") both the keltecs , I prefer the 40 cal , it is a little sharper on recoil , but a great cal. in a wonderfull carry package , I have shot apx. 750 rnds thru my 40 and have only had One (1) mishap , a failure to feed (due to a sticky -dirty- mag follower),
I carry mine "off duty" ALL the time and would (do) bet my life on it.
sure there are better packages out there , but for the money - no way.
I have been a LEO as well as a "gunsmith" for over twenty (20) years
and will only carry what I know without a doubt that I can depend on
with 111% , period....and I do own several other items , but this (keltec 40) is my (non-duty) "carry" gun.....Buy one , and spend the rest of the money wisely - buy a couple xtra mags (you can also use
S&W mags- stayaway from generic!!!), a Quality Holster and some shooter ammo as well as some Premium Carry - Self Defense ammo......
If you (when) buy one and dont like it , let me know , I'll buy it from you!!!! Good Luck !!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the input. I've decided to bid on the Kel-Tec .40. I won the bid and in a few days I will be the proud owner of a Kel-Tec. I'll update when I can put a few hundred rounds through it
