Mauser stock hole
Could someone tell me the purpose of the "hole" or ferrule (sp?) that appears (going from side to side) in the buttstock of some Mauser rifles??

I believe that it was used to run a metal bar through for locking up the weapons in the armory, but I'm not positive. 0 -
On a site that deals with cleaning Mausers, it is mentioned that the hole provides a base on which the spring loaded bolt and firing pin can be depressed and then disassembled in the field. 0 -

Actually, both answers were correct. When in the military I observed K98 Mausers secured in a rack in Germany as described. 0
