My favorite in .40sw is just plain old white box Winchester USA JHP ammo. I love it. Its cheap enough that you can buy by the case and practice with, and as much as I shoot thats pretty important. I firmly believe in pratice with what you carry. Because there are some people who purchase really expensive defense ammo such as mag-safe or hydroshock, and they've never even shot it in there gun to see if it will function regurlarly. And if it don't they may find themselves in a serious bind.

I'd advise that you don't necesarily use the common misconception that you will achive a one stop shot with one ammo and not the other. Don't buy solely on numbers. I'd say buy a box of everything you can find, and shoot it thru your gun, see what ya like the best, and then buy a case or several cases of it for long term use. Its also pretty important to have enough magazines for your gun and replacement parts, such as springs, followers, firing pins, extractors, ejectors, and such. And this is all for long term use. And make sure to have a regular scheduled practice every now and then, whether it be once a week or once a month, you need to keep things up to par. Also if you do regular maintenance and cleaning on your gun after every range session it will assure that "all you tires are aligned and ballanced." Kinda like checking the oil and keeping up maintenance on your car. A gun is a working machine with moving parts, and you bullets are the gas in the tank, you springs the oil for the engine, ect. Its an analogy.

    Good luck, hope this helps.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Thanks Lee I appreciate the advice. I get kind of discouraged when 12 hours after I ask a question I only have one reply, but when you reply I only NEED one thanks for the wisdom and encouragement!!

For the best ballistics buy Triton,or Corbon 135gr Hollow points. It brings the .40 up to the same level as the Notorious .357 mag one shot stopper. My second choice would be 155 GR Hollow points.

    Best!!!

Hydro shocks. And I do shoot them. And I know they feed. Twice a year I shoot out what I carry, and load a fresh batch. This has worked for the department I worked for and works for me now. I can afford one box of expensive rounds a year, for the knowlege that the entry hole is .40 but the exit hole (if any) is huge.

hydra-shok or cor-bon. cant go wrong with either of these. I never heard of a bad experience from either round, except on the receiving end(hehehe. I carry the hydra in my 40 and cor-bon in 357 sig

Give your kids roots and wings. and dont forget the guns!!

If you are looking for a carry round for your new P-40, I carry the 155 hydroshok Federal in mine. It is a little easier to handle than heavier rounds. There have been problems with durability in the P-40 with heavier bullet weights due to the added frame shock. I have had good luck loading a 155 swc lead bullet for a practice round. I have had good bullet grouping with laods in this weight range.

for factory ammo try corbon or speer gold dot. Both of these are very well made, very accurate, and feed great.

    My two cents
