If you wanted a good all around pistol that was small enough to used as a conceal carry weapon, what would it be. I have looked at both the Sprigfield XD and the Taurus millenium. Any other suggestions? Price is a factor.

Depends on where you are. Local classes vary.

If this is a loved one and you don't mind spending the bucks, FrontSight offers a FANTASTIC class! It is $1000 but you can find certificates on GunBroker for $400 good on any class that FrontSight offers.

They have a four day or two day defensive handgun class that is second to none. They also offer it in a three day class with stong emphasis on concealed carry laws. In fact, once you pass the class, they help you get a CCW in 11 states (or more...I can't remember).

Their quote is that once you pass their class, you will be better trained on how to cary and use a fire arm than 95% of the people who make their living carrying a weapon. That is a pretty strong statement!

    Check them out at www.frontsight.com

    Good luck!

Try shopping the Guns or sporting goods section of the classified adds in your Sunday paper. Glance at the sports section also. In some cities they run small adds to fill space. Next call some of the gun dealers in your area. Many will offer the training at a fixed price or can recommend someone they are famaliar with. Keep in mind that besides the training class costs you will also be looking at costs for the actual permit issued by the state, fingerprinting, passport photo and maybe even an additional charge for the backround check. Most of these costs are usually fixed with the training cost being the big variable. In my state the range is from about $50.00 to $100.00. You can usually save money by enrolling in larger classes and many trainers give discounts for married couples. Remember if he leaves a gun in the car and you get caught with it without a carry permit you could be in serios trouble. Consider taking the course with him. I know your not intrested in guns or carrying one but its not a bad idea to know what to do if worst comes to worst and besides he might like having someone along he knows he can out shoot when its range time.
