Did Ruger use maple ?
Every once in a while I'll see a Ruger 10/22 or Mini-14 with a reddish colored wood stock with heavy dark "tiger striping" grain. Last night I saw a mini-14 on gunbroker with one of these and the seller called it "maple wood stock with tiger striping". Was he correct that it is maple? I'd love to get my hands on one of these!
P.S. I'm sure it's not aftermarket because I've seen these in Ruger catalogs/books.

Those are probably birch wood stocks.

RUGER DID USE SOME MAPLE STOCK IN 1989-1990. CHECK YOUR SERIAL NUMBER TO BE SURE.
I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.0 -
"Tiger Stripe", "Fiddleback", or "Flame" wood figure is most often found in Soft Maple, secondly in Birch (yellow Birch)and thirdly in Hard Maple. It depends a great deal on how the wood is sawn as to how much figure will be apparent. I would guess (and only guess) that the stocks you have seen are yellow Birch. Either soft or hard Maple would be very obvious as to the difference in weight, as both Maples are much heavier. 0
