Lets see now you want a concealed hand gun right? Maybe to use to save your life or the life of a loved one right? And you only want to spend $350.00 right? Hummmmmm whats wrong with this picture? Save up and buy something you can depend on first time every time. My 2 cents

For that kind of money you should be able to fine a nice used S&W J frame. It also happen to be my favorite carry gun. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Lots of good S&W 36 and 60's out there. One of those with an Uncle Mike's boot grip is truly a great pocket pistol IMHO....

I have to disagree some with gap1916. While he is right about the restricting mentality of comitting to a price range, there are good guns to be had for concealed carry in this range. Kel-Tec comes to mind. If you're looking for a 9mm, you can't beat the P-11 for carry. I have a P-32 and have not had one problem with it. It is also a viable choice.

YOU GUYS HAVE OVERLOOKED THE RUGER SP101. EITHER THE 375 MAG OR THE 32 MAG. JUST A GREAT GUN.

I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

I recommend the P40 Kel-Tec. There are still some out there. They are under $300 and I have found it to be the most powerful pocket pistol avilable. If you can handle the 10mm Glock, the p40 might be just the thing. I carry one in a pocket holster and you don't really notice that it is there.

My vote with your limits would also be for a good, used, hammerless S&W J-Frame. Bought my wife one and she handles it quite well. Not bulky and reliable.

BTW, congrats on the M20. I have a 20C and love it. I live in bear and lion country and load it with 200gr Cor-Bon Penetrators.

I own a Kel-tec p32 and a S&W hammerless in .38 special. They're both highly reliable. But the only real advantage of the P32 is the ease of concealability, comfort in carrying, and price. The S&W is a MUCH more powerful gun, and more reliable; however, I believe all S&Ws need a good trigger job so you might want to add that into the equation.

I was just looking at a Taurus Millenium. It was compact light and in .45. I think they are available in 9mm, and .32 not sure about .40. Price was about $370. These other guys would be more informative on the reliability of taurus.

Liek other have said, you should be able to get a good SW revolver. Start watching the gun shops and shows. I got my glock 26 at a dealer for $350, it was a police concealed gun, the department switched to 40 so he traded it in.

My wife just got a Taurus P85 revolver:
    5-shot
    Titanium frame (nice and light!)
ported (not much flash but reduces recoil)
concealed hammer (DAO but it won't catch on things)
    2" barrel
    13.9 Oz
    .38 Special +P but not +P+

Recoil is rather snappy due to small size and light weight.
.38 Special Glasers should provide ample stopping power and the gun is big enough that even a larger hand could get used to it but small and light enough to make it easy to carry. Paid $300 for a very lightly used one.

Here's a link to it on the official Taurus site:

So many guns, so little money . . .

I would go with a small revolver- they're cheaper than other things. If price was not an issue, I would recommend a USP compact because it has a better grip than most other compacts I have shot. As far as caliber goes, though, it pretty much is personal preference. There are people who think .45 is the best, and people who are happy with 9mm. My advice is this- pick a caliber you're comfortable with, find some good self-defense ammo for it, and PRACTICE. The absolute worst thing you can do is not practice with the gun you might need to defend yourself!

My personal favorite (not best, but favorite) is a model 1903 Colt pocket hammerless 32 auto. Nothing is easiler to conceal, holds 8 rounds and is very reliable.

Don't leave home without it, lol.
