collapsable AR stock
Howdy
How exactly are AR-15 type 3 position stocks pinned. Also, with less than a grand to spend which manufacturer offers the most bang? Thanks

I'm not really up on the AR scene, but I just got an Olympic with the 16" bull barrel and it works fine for me. Dealer price is under $600.

have heard of non collapsing, collasable stocks that are pinned in place. wondering what that means. 0 -
To answer basically what you really want to know, yes all it takes is about $3.50 worth of a bolt from a hardware store to replace the pin and your stock will be functionally retactable again.
The reason they are doing this rather than permanently weld them together is for two reasons. One, its alot cheaper because they don't really need anything new to manufactor them on current equiptment. And two, in anticipation for the summit of the 94 assault arms ban, because after that I'm sure you'll see all kinds of conversion parts.
I've seen that there is a new 6 position retracable stock on the market, wow. I still have a 2 position on my Preban. I'm still thinking about drilling another hole in the middle to make it a 3-position.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I assume that jail is not a place you would want to visit. That said, I don't think you will find an AR with a collapsible stock for under 1K that is legal. Legal is the operative word here. You can put this stock on an inexpensive clone but you run a risk.
Real 3 position stocks have a spring loaded pin that enters 3 holes in the tubular stock member. There are many fixed stocks that appear to be 3 position but the pin is welded or rivited so there is no adjustment.
My opinion, and I'm no expert, would be get a new Bushmaster. Somewhere around $750-$800 and you will have a little left over for ammo and other stuff.
Good luck.
