Maybe I am not very bright but I have always thought that a 12 gauge is the premier shotgun for every shotgunning situation. Now I am buying a 10 gauge for turkey hunting, but are there any situations where a 20 gauge,or any other shotgun, for instance might be preferred? Just wondering.

20 gauge slugs do a nice job for deer hunting....I prefer a 20 when hunting quail or smaller game. 20's are great for kids and women, lighter weight, easier to handle for small framed folks. When holding a 12-vs-20 o/u, the 20 just feels more elegant.

The 20 GA is more than capaple of harvesting Turkey its just not the best choice. The 12GA 3in Mag is the most popular Turkey cartridge. It has more shot and shoots further and harder.Im an avid Spring Gobbler Hunter and I prefer my Mossberg Model 835 Ulti Mag with a 31/2 in.shell.But the standard 12 GA is more popular.

    Best!!

It depends on what you are going to be hunting, and how comfortable you are with handling a shotgun. Some people I know are unable to fire a 12-Gauge without nearly falling over and getting a nasty bruise.
As a general rule, it seems like the bigger the game, the bigger the gun. Personally, I like 12 for deer hunting, and my friends like 20 for birds. Personal preference is really what it is all about.
