I bought 3 "AR-15" mags online. Plastic bags marked "AR-15/.223". Mags are not marked. I tried them in my Colt M4 and they didn't fit. Looked for bent sides or anything else that would keep them from fitting....they look fine. Also tried my Sig 556. Think they might be "Outlaw".....any ideas? Thanks

There are magazines all over. GI magazines work great. I have tried Orlites and Thermolds on a limitted basis with no complaints. GI mags are cheap and plentiful. Colt mags are nearly as plentiful and you will pay extra for the horse. They do work, however.

I agree with the above statement, there are plenty of them out there.
I have had real good luck with Adventure Line USGI 20 and 30 round mags. The Colt Marked ones have also been reliable also.

All GI contract magazines, with one exception, function equally well. You'll pay lots more for a Colt manufactured mag, but there's no difference in quality or reliability. The only GI mags you should avoid are the Sanchez manufactured 30 rounders with only three spot welds down the front. The military reportedly experienced problems with this seam eventually splitting. I've had no personal experience with this, but I have used normal Sanchez mags a bunch with no problems.

As far as plastic mags, the Canadian Thermolds are reportedly prone to melting feed lips when firing lots of rounds at a time. This is primarily a problem when firing full-auto, but deserves bearing in mind. Also, you don't say what brand of AR you have but be aware that the resin body Israeli Orlite mags aren't compatible with Bushmaster rifles.

IMHO, GI mags will serve you well and can be picked up pretty cheap at most any gun show. No matter how bad they look, as long as the feed lips aren't bent and they don't have any dents in the body they can be made fully serviceable for just a few dollars. Make the dealer a low offer on several old mags, install fresh spring/follower refill kits in them and you're in business. You can never have too many magazines.

If you'll pickup a shotgun news, theres an advertisement from R Guns, who sells 30rd used Colt factory mags for $17 each.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

CDNN @800-588-9500 lists factory Colt 30 rd. mags for $34.99 and 30 rd. Israeli Orlite mags for $18.99 new and $9.99 used. Txs is quite correct, the Orlite mags won't work in any of my Bushmasters either.
Do yourself a favor and stick with the MIL-SPEC mags. Don't even consider anything from USA or Promag, no matter how low the price may be. They simply don't fit of function. I'm a law enforement dealer so when I shoot AR-15's at a demo I only use Colt factory magazines in the Colt rifles. I've never had a magazine related problem with any Colt magazine and on a demo the guns HAVE TO WORK! I honestly prefer the 20 round magazines, I like the look of the smaller mag in the rifle and it allows the customer to shoot 10 fewer rounds of my ammo!

I agree I actually prefer the 20rd mags myself, thought they don't have the "hollywood" look, they sure seem to allow me to utilize my sling alot better.

I also like the 20-rounders a lot better. Check out ammoman.com. I picked up many 20-round Adventure Line USGI mags at a great price.
