C & R Question
I see that some yugo sks are labeled as C & R but some places refuse to sell them to myself living in Kalifornia. Are they correct to not sell them to this state?

I myself tried to buy one here in Kali, got the same reaction. Most gun dealers in Kali shudder at the sound of the SKS. If you look at Kali's gun laws I think they have 2 pages devoted to just that rifle, only readable by a lawyer. If you have a C&R license and are attempting to order the BATF approved C&R SKS I don't think it's legal to ship in state. I emailed the DOJ and they couldn't or wouldn't answer the question 'Can C&R licensee's ship SKS's into the state'. Unless you apply for a assault weapon permit through the DOJ and pay the $73 filing fee and have a really really good reason to justify owning an assault weapon. The permit covers multiple weapons, must register after every purchase.
I got a SKS from a poor sap in State who couldn't pay a speeding ticket and got it for a song, unfortuneately it is not registered with the DOJ, and oops I forgot the 'must be transferred with a dealer', I have no idea of it's history- post or pre-ban and if I get caught with it I have comitted at least two felony's. So now I can't get rid of it, if I get caught with it I'm going to jail. I would forget about SKS's if I were you, only other option is to move. You don't need my headache. The only way I can see for me to legalize my rifle is get the assault weapon permit and pretend it doesn't exist in state until I get my DOJ Permit.0 -
Just to clarify. The only C&R eligible SKS is the original unaltered Russian man.. Only an SKS with detatchable mag is considered an assault weapon. This info is taken from the Curios or Relics ATF P 5300.11. These dealers are trying to slip through the net, but they know that they can't get away with it in the PRK. The Yugos were intr. in 1959. You can buy 1 without your C&R license.
