I have a Winchester 1873 in 44-40 marked with "Winchester's Repeating Arms. New Haven. CT. King's Improvement - Patented - March 29, 1866. October 16, 1860"
24" brl.- bore has minor pitting,wea - all lettering sharp, Serial 42001. Stock, originalk w/ minor scratches & dings, no cracks. Cleaning rod in stock, intact.
Appears to have been reblued professionally at some time.
Any help reqarding year of mfg.? Value? "King's Improvement?

Your rifle was made in 1880.
There would be little collector interest since it's been reblued, but .44-40 is popular with Cowboy Action shooters. It's difficult to guess what the value is, but, if it is safe to shoot, I would think that it would sell for around $500.

"Kings Improvement" refers to the patent for the loading gate found on the right side of the action. Value that you were given seems about ballpark. 0
