It depends on what features you're looking for. If you're primarily interested in the pistol grip, you might try a FAL or CETME. Both of these are imported, used battle rifles. I don't own one, but I've heard good things about both. Magazines are pretty inexpensive for these as well, check out Shotgun News for some prices. If there are other features you're looking for, let us know and we'll see what we can come up with.

Eagle Industries makes the less expensive one I am aware of,but I dont know if there any good or not? You have alot of options the Get me Rifle has proven itsself to me to be a worthwhile gun.Price ranges between $300.00 to $400.00 Dollars. They are several non AR designs that worth while.Check GB Auctions there were some very reasonabley priced guns on Auction with a wide selection to choose from.

I am definately on the trail of the CETME....but I am also open to spending a few hundred more if the QUALITY is worth the cost. I am trying to stay around the $800 area for a good .308 rifle. The new armalite rifles are just a bit over what I am willing to part with, and I guess the used rifles are in the same ballpark... I have yet to see one that is down where a poor man could afford it.
I guess the true question should have been, DO I HOLD MY BREATH FOR THE USED $800 AR TYPE, OR GET THE CETME????.....

Thanks for all the input! This forum is much better than the gunshow where someone is trying to make a sale.

I have a CETME, and am very happy with it. I also have an AR 10T, but mine is a .243
Both are very different, and obviously when you compare price, 1750.00 for the AR 10T new to the CETME at 400.00 with 5 mags, there is the quality issue. The CETME is great for popping off rounds quickly, and is acceptably accurate for what it is, a battle rifle. The AR 10T is a much more precise weapon, but for what it costs, I thinks one can expect it to be so. One other consideration, that wasn't mentioned is th FN FAL, which is quite a weapon, and can be put together from a parts kit with a new receiver at a reasonable price. Good luck with which ever way you decide to go.

Try hesse arms, I think they are about the cheapest out there. For some reason they are real proud of american made paramilitary .308win rifles. You can get a foriegn G3 type or Fal type which are in my opinion just as good, and for half the price. I really wish these import laws would climax, cause its realling killing the fun. You can actually assemble and illegal automatic weapon alot easier and cheaper than you can a legal semi auto version.

I'd highly recommend looking into building a FAL from a parts kit or buying one. Just remember that 8 of the totall components have to be american made, and it has to be assembled within limits of the 94 assault arms ban, meaning you'll probably have to take the flash hider off and install a "muzzle break". I myself just bought a nice used totally tricked out FAL type rifle for just under $400. And have owned an CIA assembled CETME that I bought and are still available from aimsurplus.com for $299.99 and am very pleased with it.

Another plus over the G3/CETME and Fal type rifles over the M1A/M14 and AR-10 rifles is that there is currently a surplus of military high cap magazines on the market for so cheap its almost unreal. You can get CETME or L1A1 Fal magazines from TAPCO for $4.99 each, and they are perfectly functioning all steal military surplus and mil spec quality, no cheap american made wanna be high caps.

Not trying to say that you shouldn't buy american, its just they need to start calling BS and level out their prices to a more affordable and realistic or comparable to equal firearms. That and stop spending so much money on insurance for frevilous anti-gun lawsuits, get some balls and start fighting back at them instead of paying them off.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
