Bulge in shotgun barrel

It depends on what kind of shotgun it is if it's worth repairing. About 15 years ago I had a Browning Citori (over and under) with a bulged barrel. Browning wanted $400 to fix it, and it would have been done right. I think there is a company in the Houston area--I can't recall its name--that does good work on shotguns, but they too are not cheap.

To more specifically address your questions: yes, bulged barrels can be repaired. If I had one, the first place I would call is the manufacturer.

    My humble opinion,

IF THIS IS A SINGLE BARREL WITH NO RID A FAIRLY EASY FIX, ANYTHING ELSE AND THE PRICE GOES UP FAST.

    Many variables to consider:
It may be just as easy or cheaper to get a new barrel/s.
If the bulge is near the muzzle you may be able to have it cut and get choke/s installed cheaper than repair.

I would reccomend calling Reynersons Gunsmith service in Baton Rouge, LA. Ask to speak to David(owner)or Nick. Reynersons is a factory warranty repair center for just about every gun made. Besides he does great work and is reasonably priced. I know first hand he is a jam-up custom rifle builder and have heard of people from out of state bringing shotguns to him for custom work. The number is (225)261-4860. Give him a call. He will be honest and straight up about weather it can be fixed and the best route for you to go.

welcome to America...now speak english or get the ****out

I had a slug barrel by Browning with a bulge in it and they repaired it for $80.00 and today you cannot tell it was ever bulged. I have also heard that Walker Arms out of Selma,Alabama is quite good. I think also that Brownells sells a tool to remove the bulge from a barrel. I have seen one used and if the barrel doesn't have a rib, it is fairly easy to use, but you must take your time and it is best if you use a set of calipers and a micrometer to make sure it is 100% correct. Good luck with your repair.

Dented barrels may be ironed out, but a bulged barrel is permanently
weakened and should be cut off (if still long enough to be legal) or replaced. Squeezing the metal back into place does not repair the damaged gun. Under pressure, sooner or later the bulged area will let go.
