I had to work on my new abolt. Glass beading in the stock and one screw in the in the pad will not come out. It also needed cleaning. I guess new just means - new work for you LOL 0 -
I've done this with both my shotguns- I tightened one before I fired it for the first time, and the other one, I found out the hard way. The first time I fired my Remington 870, the pins came out of the trigger assembly and it almost fell out. Fortunately, all of my handguns are nearly devoid of screws, so I don't have to worry about it as much as some you guys who own 1911s!

Only one and it was a used H&R rifle.

Honestly, hardly ever, but then I take most of them apart before shooting them anyway, so I might not notice a loose screw.

I find that most of the time, I don't immediately tighten a screw--just the reverse for a few moments: half of the guns I buy need a new set of Hogue grips.
It's a fact of life that practically every gun needs some enhancement, but that's what makes our craft so interesting!

Don't recollect the screw tightening bit but then again I'm like Sarge(robsguns) I generally take them apart first! However I would be willing to bet that 95% of the used guns that are traded in because they just don't shoot like they used too could use a thorough cleaning and would spring back to life!! Been there, Done that!! GHD 0 -
Bought a used 308 some time agao. First trip to the range and it shots all over the place. Couldn't get a Zero until I tighten the LOOSE floorplate/action screws. Shoots like a charm now. 0 -
Rugster, sorry to have that you have screws loose. If it helps, you're not alone!

Nothing like going to the range and having your muzzlebrake fall of the end of the barrel after a couple hundred rounds. Use Loctite. 0 -
forget accuracy, function, appearance, or group size. anybody who takes a just purchased gun to the range and shoots it without a thorough cleaning, dissasembly, and inspection is a fool. before you take the time to shoot, take the ten minutes to inspect that may save you from broken guns or serious injury. play with your own life if you must, but think about the guy shooting next to you. understanding the condition and functionial status of your gun is paramount.
