I have heard of the barrel band causing this type of trouble. And Ive also seen lose screws on alot of guns that caused the same problem.Sounds like you got a good buy.Maybe you can get it straitened out. There usually good shooters.

The 77/22 does not have a barrel band. I already took it off the stock and looked for any obvious signs. I might mess around with the stock mounting screw tension.

One of the members I was talking to by e-mail told me that he got his ruger mini-14 to tighten up by using lock-tite on the factory rings. try putting it on the securing screws when you tighten them. That is of course, if it wasn'r just a loose stock or junk scope that the original owner had.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

i find this interesting. i have a ruger .22 mag and while i havent experienced this ( and hope i dont) i would like to know if it is a problem and a possible fix. i use mine for hog hunting and it works fine( so far a sweet shooter). today i was shooting groups of about a quarter at 50 yds with a harris bipod as a rest, and i dont consider myself a skilled marksman. and u did get a steal at 150$ for it.

So far, so good. I put my own set of Ruger Rings on it, and a spare 3x9 scope with AO & target turrets. I shot 5 different kinds of ammo at 50 yds each and got 5 shots groups between .5 & 1 inch, with all five kinds of ammo within about a 3 inch spread between them. P.O.I. did change, but with different ammo. I'll try again out to 100yds and if all goes well, my 17HMR rebarrel thoughts will be scratched.

    Federal jacketed
    Federal jhp
    Remington soft point
    Winchester jhp
    Winchester jacketed

The Winchester hollow points did best.
