P-38 grips & mags

I am in the process of fixing up a Walther P-38 pistol.Did Hogue or anyone else make grips for this?If I can't find a orginial P-38 or
P-1 Walther mag for it at a reasonable price I will get a aftermarket one.Who makes a good aftermarket mag for these guns?Thanks again,CW

    I've been doing the same, running into the same problems. There's a website called http:/www.sksman.com/ that has a fairly good selection of P-38 stuff. Gun Parts http:/www.gunpartscorp.com/ has a good selection of original parts, though a bit pricey. Hope that helps you some. If you find another spot, post again and let me know!

    I ordered hammerspring,strut,pin,safty lowering lever,mag catch and a couple other things from gunpartscorp site already.Except for the mag release I think the prices are very fair for the parts I ordered.The grips they stock are used and over priced,their mags are aftermart.I worry when I order from them because my last three orders were f@$$# up and it takes to long to straiten out because I'm in CA and they are in NY.The sks site did not have anything for the P-38.You fixing a shooter or a collector piece?

    I'm working on a shooter, not a collector piece. It's a Spreewerke, all matching parts, except that some GI (I guess) brought it home, then had it nickel plated.

    sksman has a pretty good selection of grips, including some walnut ones.

    I got one of Gun Parts' aftermarket mags for my gun- don't know who made it, but it works well. 29 bucks is pricey (to me) for an aftermart mag. And yep, you have to be careful with those folks- if you're not specific about every detail, they'll screw it up.

    RockLobster mine is a spreewerke also,will be a shooter also.This makes me want to ask you a question.On the right side of the frame,just forward of the triggerbar,can you see the locking block and barrel mate,with gun assembled,or does yours have some type of cover?The slide rail on mine is not continous,there is a 1/2 inch spot open and you can view the above parts.The reason I ask is all pics I see of this type of gun,the rail has no gap.A second question is after you remove the firing pin cover,the loop on the firing pin spring,does it go over or under the the cartridge indicator pin?I have many exploded views but no detail shots.Sorry the questions are so basic,but I received the pistol in parts and am piecing it back to life.The site jgreen(thanks!) posted is good also,that is how I IDed my gun.

    No gap in the frame on my gun- sure hope you don't have a broken frame. Sure sounds like it. The loop on the firing-pin spring goes over the loaded-chamber indicator pin.

    I have one of the Gun Digest gun assembly/disassembly book sets. The auto pistol volume has an excellent detailed disassembly guide- sure helped me a lot.

    Nope the frame isn't broken,it is very obviously manufactured with that gap there.I took the frame to a local gunshow last weekend and a dealer with several p38s(but no parts) said he had seen a few like that with a small cover there years ago,but he said he hasn't seen any recently.Thanks for the info Phil,CW
