30-30 A.I. in a Savage Bolt?
I've been kicking around the idea of getting a 30-30 Savage or Stevens bolt action and having it converted to 30-30 Ackley Improved. Any reasons why I should not do this with one of these bolt action 30-30's? Should I go with a Marlin or Win lever action instead?

Sounds like a good project. I'd go with the bolt, perhaps one of the older Savage models that was originally chambered for .30-30 like the Model 340. 0 -
The Savage 340 was actually what I was looking at. That and the Savage/Stevens 325 with the "butter knife" bolt handle.
Thanks for the input!0 -
the sav. 340/325 should work ok, just don't load over std. .30/30 pressures. these are good rifle but not as strong as say a m-70 win. 0 -
Sounds like fun to me... I'd make sure to have the barrel stamped where the cartridge is to signify that its been converted, just incase one day when you pass away, then next person who gets it will have a better way to figure out why their brass keeps comming out all funny...
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
