refinish a Ruger 10/22 receiver
What is a good(inexpensive) way to refinish an old black 10/22 receiver? I'd prefer to keep it black but like better quality than spray paint. I would consider paying for a professional job as long as it doesn't cost more than the gun.

Clintf,Brownells sells an aersol made just for the alloys like your 1022.Crap I just got a can in my last order,I can't remember the name of the stuff.ALLUMAHYDE,spelling is not exact but pretty close. It works pretty good(FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS).Good luck,Roger 0 -
I use Rustoleum or Krylon black stove paint. Sand receiver smooth. Get it good and clean, oil-free. Shoot two or three light coats. Let dry. Bake overnight in wife's oven at 200 degrees.

Is there someone in your area that dows "powder coating" ? It's a electro-static applied finish thats baked after it's applied. (same finish you see on transmission dipstick tubes, cast risers on bows, and (I'm guessing) probably the same finish that Rugar put on at the factory.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -

I have had good luck with VHT paint for exhaust systems. Prep carefully, follow instructions, and cure as long as you practically can. Leaves a very hard wearing surface.

Its not black, but, I had one electroless nickeled....came out very nice, and seems to be an extremely durable finish... 0
