Savage 99 ?

Can any one tell me if the rotory follower on 99's were ever color cased. Thanks, Alan

  I have a 1899R and the rotary cartridge counter is or appears
  to be case colored. Thought it was unique. 101

  There is a forum topic on 24 hour campfire (all one word) for Savage. These guys appear to be pretty knowlegable. Good information.

  Yes they were. Since color case is not very durable, and the spool gets quite a bit of action loading and unloading, the colors tend to have disappeared on older much used rifles. When you disassemble them, however, the colors are usually quite visible at the ends of the spool which do not contact the cartridges.
