rechambering this rifle isn't realy an option as the bore size is odd (.446 +-), your best bet is to reload for it. you can get sizing dies, brass, and a bullet mould from midwayusa.com for less than a 'c' note.

Hey Mike- My book refers to this as an 11 mm X60, black powder. Are these old cannons ok to shoot?

should be ok to shoot with black powder or equivelant smokeless loads if it is in good overall cond. you might want to have a gunsmith check it. i don't have my cart. of the world handy but i don't think the 11x60 is the same as .43 mauser.

11X60R, 10.95X60R, and .43 Mauser are all the same. The sporting ammo referenced was made by Kynoch and Dominion, I believe though it too is long out of production and you are unlikely to encounter any. Reloading is really the way to go, though if you really want it, www.ows-ammunition.com has it; that is Old Western Scrounger. It is new ammo, but like $60 some per box of 20 and at that price you are almost able to start reloading. One fella at the gunbroker auction sight sells a kit of dies, brass, and bullets for $67; all you need is a press and powder and primers and you are ready.

I agree that rechambering isn't practical unless you rebarrel entirely. Isn't worth it. The gun should be safe as these were very well made, but if in doubt have it checked.
