John-I don't know the answer to your question, but I think a good place to find out would be by talking to the folks at Dixie Gun Works, 800-238-6785. They are in the replica business and put out a great catalog of such items. Their founder was an expert in the area of blackpowder items.

Thanks - I really appreciate your help. I can't find any markings the the flask I have but I understand there is supposed to be a Colt's Patent & a Serial Number. Thanks again,
    John

Were the flasks that came with cased 1860 .44 Army Colt's manufactued by Colt? If so, did they have a Colt Marking and did they have a serial number and where are these markings located on a flask? I'd really appreciate any information you can give me.
    Thanks

Hi John, I have looked my flask (circ.1860),union officer, from one end to the other. there are no identifing marks or sns: on it. They were not only used for .44's but for other weapons as well hence were mass produced. The best way to find out for sure is to call COLT Customer Service @ 1-800-962-COLT(2658). They should be able to provide that info. Good Luck !! Beejay
