I installed a 20 round mag on my sks rifle and found that I would get a jam every other round. Soon I found that if I hit the butt of the rifle to set the rounds back in the mag- the problem went away. Any reasons why? I'd like to be able to load and shoot without bumping the rear.

It could be a problem with the mag conversion.I had posted a few days ago on General about the best SKS and had a few warn me of that problem.I just picked up a Chinese myself in a package deal for my Smith 457 yesterday.I havent got a chance to shoot it yet though so I hope I dont have the same problem. The Gunsmith I got it from did the Mag conversion on it.Try looking at the thread on general I got some good reply's.Its headed "Who makes the best SKS?"

Another thing it could be is the mag itself. Some AK mags are crap to start with.It could be the feed lips, bad spring, bad cut of the metal..etc.I have heard the plastic AK mags are no good what-so-ever si if you haave one try a metal mag, maybe a Russian manufacture one.

Daddo, I have one as well and did the 20 round box mod, mine was a metal box. The prolem I had was that it would shoot 16 to 17 okay then hang. I removed a lip burr on the mag itself and that fixed mine. Just another thought for you...
