AUSTRIA MANNLICHER WHAT IS IT WORTH
I have a rough idea what this gun is worth but it has been six years since I had an offer on it. (MADE IN AUSTRIA Original Mannlicher Schoenauer Mod.MCA KAL.30-06) THIS IS THE HEAVILY INGRAVED ALPINE MODEL. It has a swept bolt, double set trigger, Monte Carlo stock, and a moose ingraved on the bottom plate. There are also ingravings on the bolt, trigger guard, front and rear of the barrel. This gun has never been fired. The action is what I would call glass, smooth as glass. The last real offer I had on this was $ 4.000 do you think it is still worth that amount or maby more.
I appreciat any and all comments or criticism. thanks

O.K.--someone's got to answer this--guess I'll throw myself into the breech. The Blue Book does not testify to such a high value, stating that in 100% an MCA rifle (mfg. 1961-71) is worth about $850. Now, obviously, yours being heavily engraved is something out of the ordinary and is worth more. The problem with engraving, and attempting to evaluate it, is that it is beyond the ability of the average gunsmith/dealer(Me)to do so; because engraving is an art form. There are good and poor engravers, just like there are good and poor painters. Naturally, one would assume that an engraver working for Steyr would be good, and his work valuable. Just how valuable can only be properly ascertained by another good engraver or an engraving expert, and that can only be done by visually examining the work. When having such an expert examine the rifle you should expect to pay a fee for his appraisal which can run as high as 10% of the value. Frankly, $4,000 seems high; but like I've already said, I'm not the one for the job. 0
