Splitting lead Hollow Point Bullets
Ive seen people take their pocket hnives and make an X in lead Hollow Point Bullets.I think the theory is they will mushroom better.
Is there any thing to this,or is it a myth?

I do it to my .357 hollows I x the top then take a sharp knife and score the sides a bit to give it a seem to spread at I have retrieved some of my bullet fired to see wht kind of difference it makes nd my 125 grain Remingtons open up to about the size of a nickel. It pretty much just helps to give consistent mushrooming and keeps it from getting clogged with clothing because its so ready to open even hitting clothes will spread it out.

I tried this with 30-06 hunting rounds. I got a hacksaw and cut 4 slot into the side of the hunting ammo. Also, I got the drill and drilled a 1/8 inch hole about 1/4 inch deep into other bullets to make hollow points. Nothing I did made them expand better on a deer. May be different with a pistol.

If it expands better even through denim, it would be worthwhile. Denim is the most likely to clog a HP round.
In practice, getting a bullet that will expand without this special treatment would make more sense. There's plenty of good HP bullets that don't need any help to expand. This is one of those things that might catch hell from an attorney fishing to make a citizen look like he's out for blood in a shooting. I'd limit your Xing to use for hunting and avoid it for self defense ammo.

So carving an x in the bullet is concidered cheating !!!
I supose making real hot hand loads is cheating too.
Dont take my comments above to hard, Just kinda funny to me.
Sounds like a good idea for low velocity pistol rounds, Not a very good idea for medium and high velocity rilfe loads.0
