I was told when I bought it it was Chinese but I compared it to my cousins Chinese SKS today and they are totally different.Mine has no Englih on it,no importers name or mark in english,it has some type of Asian symbols on it that are of different style thn my cousins Chinese model. It has 8 symbls on the left side of the receiver right where it meets the barrel that looks like it would be a serial number,it has 3 symbols side by side but with a space between the 3 on the back of the receiver, and the only thing I can understand on it is a symbol on the right side of the receiver which is a Star with the letter 1 inside of it or it could be another symbol.Does anybody know what this is?Or where I could go to translate these symbols? Also is the Star with #1(or symbol) inside it in fact a Chinese marking?

The D7 REG165 7/68 is also etched into the bottom of the metal butt plate. It was packed in with dirt.

The Star/1 indicates North Vietnamese manufacture. Sounds like you have an actual Vietnam bring-back...

Is it possible that it's a 5 pointed star with an arrow in it, making it a Russian SKS? That's what I have.
