REM700PSS Stock Crack - the final story...
The 233 PSS saga draws to a close (thank gawd)...
- Remington replaced the cracked PSS stock, no issues, no cost.
- Imbert/Smithers did the install, check out, test firing, done.
This was the second HS stock that they have done this on...
- I replaced the pad on the new stock, extending the stock 1 1/2
inches.
- I fired about 160 rounds, cleaning and recleaning the barrel
(probably to excess) throughout the process.
- Today I finally tried to see what it would really do if I did my
part. I did manage to group 5 in 1/2 inch at 100 yards, measured
at the widest part of the single hole, outside to outside.
And now, the odd part (at least to me)... I tried Federal American Eagle 55gr, 62gr... and Gold... but the second best cartridge was Black Hills 68gr reman's. The most accurate round, believe it or not, was with Winchester 45gr JHP Varmint, high velocity (3600). I thought 62 or 68gr bullets would be the most accurate. The rifle has a 1-in-9 twist. Regardless, the rifle just eats this ammunition and loves it. Why ? Beats the heck out of me but I have more of the USA2232 on order. I never would have believed it but the best groups were all with the 45gr.
So, that's the end of the saga. A "thank you" to all that helped with suggestions on the stock resolution, barrel cleaning, etc..
Your opinions really helped.
Thanks !

The bottom line with barrels is that while there are generalities, they're all individuals and you never know what they'll like till you shoot them.

I have an xp-100 in 223 that likes the same 45 grain factory load as well or better than anything I've tried! That's including Fowler BR bullets and all sorts of match bullets. Makes reloading a lot easier! Just go to Wally World and pick up a few 40 round boxes for 11.00/box!! GHD 0 -
GroundhogDevastation...
Natchez has USA2232F, the 50 round box (not 40), for $12.19.
Not a bad deal...
