I order ammo all the time and it is shipped via UPS and they havent charged me any fee that Im aware of.I would take no ones word for it but call UPS and ask them.Unless some of the regular ammo shippers can answer.

It has to marked "ORM-D" - UPS will fax you a label you can print and tape on the box. On the shipping form you fill out it is "Small Arms Cartridges" and it's supposed to be in it's original packaging (whatever that might mean). I think the other day the UPS lady told me the package had to be under 60 lbs. If it's going to an address where children are present they'd like you to pay the fee for "adult signature required" - I believe it's two bucks. There are no hazmat fees associated with ammo. 0 -
Sturdy box and ORM-D on outside of package are the requirements I was told. NO Haz-Mat fees. ORM = Other Regulated Material. Classification D. 0 -
Also be aware that it has to go to an actual UPS station or be picked up by UPS; that is, though Kinkos, MBE, OFfice Max, etc will ship UPS for you, most do not accept items like ammo and even if they do, will charge more.

Heres what I found out when I called their hazmat hotline.
Max weight is 66# per package. Must be marked ORM-D Cartridges small arms. Box must have a ECT (look on the box certificate, the circle with writing in it) of 44 or greater for shipments of 20-66#. Also must be dropped off at UPS or picked up by their drivers.0
