LEO Polygraph
Just had a question or two for the resident police officers. My friends and I all started school on Wednesday. Myself and two other guys are going to school to get degrees in criminology. My friend JR and I have spotless criminal records. The third guy has no criminal record, but admits to " doing a lot of stupid stuff " when he was younger. I have reason to believe this is ( or was ) drug related. Anyway, we were going over all of the different police departments and discussing where we would like to work, under ideal conditions. We discovered that a lot of the departments in my area- Kansas City- require potential applicants to take and pass a polygraph test. Well, this freaked Justin out. He's worried that he would make it all the way to that phase of the selection process and be disqualified.
Anyway, the actual meat of the question we had was this- what kind of questions do most departments ask? Some departments in this area have gone so far to imply that they don't want anybody who has even tried drugs. I don't have anything to worry about- but some of my friends do. We were just curious. Thanks in advance for any help you guys offer!

Some depts will not accept anyone who even admits that they tried drugs, but most now overlook that. Of course, a drug conviction would eliminate most candidates.
You should be aware that a polygraph is no more scientific than a Ouija board or a voodoo doll. It doesn't work, never will work, and should be banned by law in my opinion. All of this country's traitors in the intelligence community took and passed multiple polygraph tests.
However, if your friend THINKS that they work, he will probably fail.

nmyers nailed it on polygraphs. Might as well hire a psychic to do a reading on the applicants.
Some people cannot fail a poly, others cannot pass, no matter what the question. As long as there are a significant number of people who can't pass, or who can't fail, no one with good sense can possibly take such a test seriously.
By the way, I can't pass one. BTDTGTTS.

I usually dont openly disagree, but Polygraph test are acccurate, when you lie your pulse rate will change.I know their of no use in Court and have never proved anyone guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. But they sure as heck have loosened the noose on many necks. What Im saying if your a suspect and pass a lie detector test, your no longer a suspect. But Vice/Versa it wont convict.I can usually tell if someone is lieing to me just by watching their actions.I will only give my 2 cents but dont lie when takeing one. They will surely detect it,all their looking for is honesty.
Best!!
