Need info on pawnshop purchase
I recently acquired a Navy Arms 3rd Dragoon in .44 cal. at a local pawnshop. It has an 18 inch barrel and a detachable stock. Eventho the gun is in great shape,i haggled the price down to $75.00 using the fact that there was no powder flask or any other accessories that came with it.
There wasn't any loading data for it and i am trying to find the type of powder and amount of powder to use with it. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Sounds like quite a deal! Never heard of an 18" barrel on any of the Dragoons...Love to see it..! Detachable Stock is a Plus..! As for shooting this cannon...I'd use about 30 Grains of 2FFG Black Powder. And make sure you Butter the other Chambers before shooting it!!!! If you ever get a Multiple Fire you stand the risk of shooting your own hand off if you try to support the barrel with your left hand (if your left handed}..That would be awfully Rude!..Could you shoot me a Digital Photo of this Hand Cannon and email it to me? Best....

The markings are- 3rd Dragoon,1851,cal.44 made in Italy,
Navy Arms, Armi san Marco-Garbone VT or VI on the barrel. The engravings on the cylinder depict a calvary scene. The letters PN are below a round symbol that I can't make out. There is also AD stamped in a square on the rec. The serial number is below 5000.

That gun has a very high coolness factor.
I saw a single action 44 (Uberti maybe) with brass grip frame and 16" barrel WITH a holster for the gun. The guy said it was his Concealed Carry gun.0 -
There is a holster for this one but the leather is dry and hard. It also needs a good refinishing. It is brown but I prefer black. i reckon that will be one of my next objectives.
I meassured from the front of the cylinder to get the 18 inches, should I have took the measure from the front of the rec?

another thought, do not use rws-nobel caps in a revolver. i use them exclusively in my rifle because they have much more power, but the first time i used them in my 1851 colt, all 6 cylinders went off, and i had greased the front. pieces of balls were flying every where. 0 -
richbug, After that little fiasco you were lucky to find our balls!! GHD 0 -

WOW!!! That was one hell of a deal! Thats a sweet gun. Were all jealous...
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Soak the leather in Lexol for a couple of days. It may bring the leather back. If there are cracks in the leather though, it's had it. 0
