Marlin serial number question?

Does the serial # give any info on the date the gun was made? If not, is it possible to find out the date another way?

  For Marlin's made after 1948 the letter before the serial number indicates the year it was made. There is a list in the Blue Book of Gun values for the dates or I am sure you can call Marlin and find out.
