Your rifle is sometimes called "The Russian Garand". The svt40 was developed from the svt38 which was developed just before the start of W.W.II. A lot of it's gas system design was borrowed from the older Simonov rifle, and was copied in the design of the German MP44. The weapon was widely used on the Eastern Front by elite troops, but did not remain in use following adoption of the AK-47 series of rifles. It shoots the full power 7.62x54R mm cartridge. In 100% condition it is worth $350-400. In 90% the price drops to $250-275. Collectors are hoping that more of these will appear on the market with the passing of the Soviet Union and increased trade.

Good to see you also! Sometimes I have to neglect the forum for awhile and make a living. Rough...but that's life!
