I imagine some experts here will help you out. If they don't, go to gunboards.com. Go to 'message boards' and then to 'guns of the rising sun'.

Please give a full description of length of the rifle, markings, weight, rear sight design, and caliber. Specifically, is the gun in 6.5mm or 7.7? That is, .264 or .30 caliber? On the reciever, are there two little holes drilled in the top or one? Is there a little stamp that looks like a flower on the reciever? On the left side of the reciever, describe the markings. Does the gun have the dust cover over the bolt? Is the cleaning rod present? What is the gun's overall condition including metal bluing and wood finish? Does the bayonet have a scabbard? What shape is the ricasso? (I think that's the term) That is, just above the handle, are the little metal protrusions, one of which fits over the muzzle, curved or straight? Does the wood of the handle wrap all the way around and is held on by rivets, or only part way around and held on by screws? What type of material is the scabbard? What are the markings on the blade just above the base? Has it been sharpened? Is the bolt handle on the gun oval or squared off somewhat? Is the rear sight a peep or standard? Is the buttplate wood or metal, nailed on or screwed? Is the rifling in the bore sharp or is there wear?

Whew. Answer all that and you should get a good value quote. If selling, I might be interested depending on what you have. Value could run anyhwere from $80 to several hundred dollars.

Sorry you are disposing of a personal momento. I believe the value also depends on whether or not the chrysanthemum has been ground out
    or defaced.
