38-50 Maynard 1882 Practically identical to the 38-50 Ballard, and Winchester uses a bullet of similar diameter..Cartridge was never very popular. Then there was the 38-50 Ballard introduced in 1876 for the Rifles..This was the foreunner of the Popular 38-55.., and then there was the 38-50 Remington-Hepburn which was introduced about 1883 as one of the calibers for Remington-Hepburn Rifles..did'nt gain any following and was discontinued a few years later...Value wise??? You'll have to locate a collector to see what the currant value is......

I've never seen / heard of a Maynard cartridge with a headstamp. These could be either the Ballard or the Remington - impossible to tell just by the headstamp as the makers in the 1800s were not so careful about their markings as they are in today's tort-saturated markets; for that determination I'd need pix & dimensions. Value is hard to determine. Loaded rounds in good or better condition bring $10 - $15 at auction, but there's not much market for fired cases.
