Reference source for barrel threads
Thanks in advance;
Anyone know of a reference source on-line that shows and/or details the different types of barrel threading. I know there are a very large number of different types, but am loooking for some general types. I have picked up two, apparently new, stainless barrels and need to know what they may go to.
Thanks for the info.

Hank,
I don't know of a site online that shows different barrel/thread
sizes. I may have some of them in my old books. If I can find
them I will post some sizes for you.
Otherwise, I recommend taking
the barrels to a good gunsmith and let him measure the threads and
he should be able to tell you which receiver they are cut for.
Also, if you don't have a thread
gauge and micrometer or caliper, a machinist can measure the threads
and tell you what they are.

Hank,
If you know the diameter/thread size, post them. Someone
may know what receiver it goes to.

Thanks for the advice. If noone knows of a good reference source, I will put your suggestion into action and post some specifics, maybe a picture as well.
Thanks again

Post the diameter, the number of threads in one inch, the length of threaded portion and the length & diameter of any unthreaded portion. 0 -
The book that I thought had barrel threads in it doesn't. If you
get the info. post it and someone should be able to find it for you.

Hey ahankster--see if you can find a copy of "Bolt Action Rifles" by Frank De Haas. It has re-barrelling info; shank length, diameters, and threads per inch of many rifles. It's a great reference. 0 -
The best source for action information on most bolt actions is The Bolt Action, a two volume set published by Wolfe Publishing in 1985. A very good source of info for Mauser Rifles is the book by Jerry Kuhnhausen, The Mauser Bolt Actions, M91 Thru M98. Frank de Haas's book on Single Shot Rifles and Actions is another good source. 0 -
Also, and one of the best, "Bolt Action Rifles" by Frank de Haas (DBI Books), a different book from the one cited by 25-06, shows the thread shank drawing for many military and civilian rifles. 0 -
The NRA Gunsmithing Guide- Updated has several pages of barrel threads and shank sizes, including those of Frank De Haas.
Excellent book,- lots of good articles on everything pertaining to guns.0 -
