For hunting I would reccomend the .44 the .41 is adeqate but the ammo selection does not have as much diversity as the .44magnum.The .357 will take deer but not as easily as either of the other 2 suggestions..44mag all the way.

If by short shots you meen finish shots to the head the .357 will be more than adequate but for range shots 20 yards+ the .44Magnum is what you need.If its just for finishing .357 though.

Shot a moose right between the eyes with my DE in 41 Mag loaded with 220 TMJ bullets loaded to about 1350 FPS. Couple years later I shot 4 Caribou on the same day with it using the same bullet. Only trouble with the DE is that you cannot load cast bullets because of the gas operation. The DE in 41 or 44 mag can be used to swap barrels and bolts of either caliber. DE no longer comes in 41 mag so your only option there is a used one.

How about the 10 inch barrel .357 would it not be a faster bullit 125gr or go heavy 168 or .or 0 -
If you plan on taking Deer 125 grain wont do it unless your holding on to him.Even out of a 10" barrel the .357 will still be close range it will kill them but its hard to get close enough to a Deer for it.The .44 out of a 10" barrel will add about twice the distance. For humans these rounds have the opposite effect the .44 is not s good as .357 but for Deer the .357 is not as good as .44 its all about penetration. The .44 will penetrte everything where the.357 will not have enough weight to get on in there it will just hit and open up and stop.If you go with a.357 dont shoot JHP shoot heavy FMJ and then you will get good penetration but nowhere near the .44 wound and if he runs practicaly no blood trail to follow.

I have used my S&W 586 with a 8 3/8" barrel for deer for 5 years now i use the Horndy 180 gr HPXTP with 18.6 gr H110 this works well out to 100 yds this 357 load have been all one shot kills shot placement is the most importain thing to do 0 -
What's all the debate about? You should just get the Desert Eagle in .50 Action Express and not worry about it. You wouldn't have to worry about shot placement, one-hit kills, or anything like that. Of course, you would have to worry about not having anything left to make a trophy out of...

100 yard one shot kills with a .357?Then you are accomplishing something I have never seen in all my years of hunting.Do they drop or do you have to chase them the rest of the day?Its hard to get a Deer with a 30-30 at that range sometimes. How big of Deer we talking?.50ae would definately do it though.Exspensive ammo.

what kind of velocity does that load get Dobleman?

The 50AE bullets are only $14.50/20 in wwwnatchezss.com, so don't rule it out. Out of a 10" barrel, it kicks slightly more than a 357 hot load in a wheel gun, very pleasant to shoot. And, If you hit the vitals ans not the shoulder, there is no meat waste. Go for the 50AE!!
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0 -
I would prefer the 41 Mag,one reason is less recoil than the 44 mag so you have quicker follow up shots. And the .41 Mag is more than enough for reasonable shots on Whitetails.
Best!!
