I own one and find it highly accurate (as are most Paras) and very reliable. Workmanship is good. The trigger pull is reminiscent of a good revolver--always the same every shot. There are other double action .45 ACP semi-auto pistols, but no other 1911 types that come to mind. There have been some in the past (I believe Seecamp made one in the '70s-a conversion) but the ones that I saw had poor triggers that "stacked". The LDA's trigger is hard to beat.

If you like M1911-pattern pistols, and who doesn't, then the LDA is a GREAT pistol. All Paras are well made, accurate and reliable. (Current Paras have an integral feed ramp, so are more reliable feeders than Colts and clones with the traditional configuration.) Pre-ban 14-round magazines are readily available, and one can legally add extended floor plates to get the round count up to 18+1 or so! That is major firepower from a .45, or even a 9x19. If you want firepower, you do not need to settle for a minor chambering like the 9x19. I wish Para would make the stainless guns with an alloy frame, but so far, it has not despite my repeated pleas.

In my opinion, the trigger pull is MUCH lighter than a double-action revolver, although it is long like a DA revolver.

Of course, there are many other new double-action .45s available, such as S&W, H-K, SIG, EAA Witness, CZ, etc., but they are not M1911-pattern. Back in the early 1970s when I had a Colt Combat Commander converted to double-action by Seecamp, there were none, although the SIG/Sauer-made Browning BDA (nee SIG P220) soon came on the market, as did the H-K P9S. ODI made a clone of the Seecamp, and Colt finally got into the act with the ugly Double Eagle. As far as I know, the Paras are the only current M1911-pattern double action pistols available. With the reputation Para has, I do not see anyone else entering the market.
