1861 colt navy cap&ball, additional info
Trying to identify and value a pistol left to family, only discribed as Colt cap & ball, 1861 navy, engraved cylinder Texas vs Mexico
w/box. What if necessary other information needed? Any help appreciated. Thank you.
I have now been told that the serial number is 418XX. It is item # F1301 in the Colt catalog. I don't have access to this catalog.

A genuine antique Colt '61 Navy is a very valuable piece if in excellent condition, which is to say a few thousand. If it is a modern repro in excellent condition a few hundred. For a meaningful answer, you will need to give serial number, at least the first few digits, all other markings, describe amount of original finish on the piece, etc. Hope this helps. 0 -
If your revolver is original it is highly collectable. Additional information needed would be a very thorough description of the condition of the piece, any damage, alterations, unusual features. How much of the original finish remains? Blue? Nickel? Conditon of bore and cylinder chambers? Grip material and condition. All markings.
Given this information we'll try to give you a ball park figure. A better idea would be a set of good photos, and the best idea an in hand visual evaluation by an expert or advanced collector in your area. There have been many replicas made over the last 50 years, and the existance of an original box is suspect.0
