Where does this thing go in?

Is it supposed to fit on the back of the recoil spring guide?

What holds it in place?

I must be lost they said "just drops right in thar".

  Behind the recoil spring on any length guide rod.

  It slides over the guide rod then the spring goes on afterward. The pressure from the spring holds it on the rod. The contoured side fits against the barrel.
  
  When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....
