Clean Your Guns!!!
I found out today how important cleaning your guns is.
I regularly clean all my guns after each shooting except for a marlin 25n i keep in the truck for pest control and vermin. Upon spotting a possom this morning near the chicken coop i retrieved the rifle and fired a shot at it, only to watch the bullet impact about 1 foot low. it looked up at me, and i fired again. about 1 foot right and still low. Perplexed and near tears i jogged down the hill to my range and proceeded to test the guns zero.
TO my suprise my rifle the normally holds 1/2" groups at 50 yards was struggling to hold 10 inch groups!!!! I checked all my screws for wobble, and none showed any. my next thought was a genious one, what about cleaning it?!
Over an hour later i had about 175(no joke) dirty bore patches and one hell of a mess. The same gun after a thorough cleaning shot a 5/8 group first try. From this point on i vowed never again to let any gun of mine get so dirty. ( did i mention that the normally shining silver bore had been solid black with chunks of grime inside!) happy shooting

It makes a big difference when you clean that lead, copper, and powder out of those Rifleings.

Most .22's that have a jamming problem, that I have seen, were
let go, not cleaned, and the build up of "gunk" caused the problem.
Keep them clean, and no problem.

My Marlin 60 jams after 2-300 rounds if I don't break it down and clean and oil the mechanism. If I am REALLY thorough I might get 500 rounds out of it. I generally don't clean the bore after every shooting with a .22 but even there, after a few thousand rounds I scrub out the bore well. I DO lightly oil the bore after every shooting though, just in case.

Took an old 22 pump Winchester in trade. The fellow told me that the barrel was shot out and mostly smooth. I looked at it and agreed. Gave him a small trade for the gun planning to tear it down and sell the parts. After getting it home, I noticed that the action was pretty tight to have that much wear in the barrel. After lots of scrubbing and electronic bore cleaning, it had plenty of rifling and shot great. I kept it and put it in my collection.
