Chrome lined vs Chrome alloy AR barrels- what's the difference? Thanks

There are several types of stainless steel. One is an alloy created by mixing chromium with the steel. Chrome lined is a surface treatment that is applied to the chamber and bore. It resists the corrosive action of residue of burning powder and corrosive primers. 0 -
Think of a chrome bumper--it's a plating over a steel--that's like "chrome lined".
I'm rusty (no pun intended) on the subject, but isn't chromium alloyed into some of the steels for firearms without it actually being a "stainless steel"?
Doesn't "stainless steel" require nickel content along with the chromium?0 -
Chrome moly is a type of ferrous metal that is not stainless.
It is what 98% of barrels are made of.
Chromelined is as above.

Rsnyder55 shares the same view as I do.But I feel like the chrome lined barrel is a better barrel.

I prefer chrome lined barrels especially on military rifles
but people that shoot for accuracy claim that chrome-lined
is NOT the way to go for gilt edge accuracy.I dont know if
this is true--never seen any actual studies. DW

Hard chroming, which is used in "chrome lined" is a differant material than that used in "chrome plated" as in bumpers. "Hard chrome" is also used on crank shafts in engines to improve the life of the part.
On guns ideally you want a hard material on the bore, and a softer material for the barrel itself. In case of a failure you want a splitting, not fragmentation.
