Benelli Semi-Auto
I'm in the market for a Semi-Auto shotgun, and I'm wondering if a Benelli is the way to go. I am willing to spend the money, if it is truly a gun that will last my lifetime. Is it? What model would you recommend? Any other guns i should consider instead? Thank you!

Benelli's are great shotguns, very well made, but I have to say get a Browning Gold if its too hunt with.If for home protection get a Scattergun Technologes or a Beretta 1201 Riot.If for skeet advantage Benelli for the fast cycling.Overall Browning Gold.

I just looked at those Browning Golds on Gunbroker.com Not bad at all. On top of that, they're cheaper than a Benelli M1 by 200 bucks. Can anyone tell me anything bad about brownings? I am going to be using the gun for hunting mostly (pheasant and dove), but occasionally for Trap shooting. Thanks 0 -
For Pheasant and Dove there really isnt anything bad to say. These are some of the best bird guns available.Good bird hunting will tranfer over too skeet and vice versa.

HarleyMan, why do you say that about the benelli? I also forgot to mention i may be using it for turkey hunting also. 0 -
I would never say anything bad about a Browning either.
In fact, 95% of my guns (shooters and collectors-from Belgium to Japan) are Brownings.
I'm a member of the Browning Collectors Association and hunted for 40+ years with one model of Browning or another.
"BUT", last year I bought a new Benelli Montefeltro 20ga. for my Grouse, Prairie Chicken, Pheasant and Quail gun.
Wow, I'm sold.
These old legs don't climb the hills like they used to-so carrying a shotgun that weights less than 6 1/2 lbs is a dream come true.
No faster action ever developed. Your hunting buddies will be amazed.
No cleaner action ever developed. No dirty gas ports or powder residue to clean.
The inertia system is simply amazing, nothing smoother.
You won't go wrong with either shotgun, but I'll never be sorry about my choice.

I have 2 semi-auto shotguns. Both 10 guage. One a Browning Gold Stalker and the other an Ithaca Mag 10. Never had a problem with either one. Never handled or even seen a Benelli so can't compare them as far as function goes.

Thanks guys, but I'm still not convinced. Benelli M1 Camo, or Browning Gold? Is there anyone out there who has both that can compare them? Thx again. 0 -
I have fired a Benelli and a Gold many times thats why I chose to comment here. Not the M1 but the Benelli Super Black Eagle. The Gold took the cake. The M1 I would say is more suited for Militay use even though they offer a field model. How fast do you need to fire 12 gauge shells at Birds? For what you seek the GOLD is the one.It points better shoulders better and just has that great gun feel. The Browning is a true field gun.

Unless I am mistaken some of the Benelli's come with shims to adjust the stock so if it doesn't fit, it can be adjusted.
I have two Benelli's. The Super 90 with both barrels and stocks, and the Special 80. Neither have failed me ever.
I like the Brownings also and worked for stocking Browning dealers for over 20 years, and have shot all of them numerous times with the factory reps, many times side by side with other manufacturer models.
For some reason the Benelli's suit me a litte better.
For birds from quail to pheasant, I use a 20 guage O/U.0 -
I own the benelli super black eagle and a friend of mine had the browning gold 3 1/2. We hunt every kind of bird there is in Arkansas. My Benelli cycles well with every kind of shell but my friend's browning would jam on the Remington 3 1/2 steel shot and a few other shells no matter how clean it was. We mostly duck and goose hunt and we use the 3 1/2 alot. He has since traded his gold and is now looking at the berreta xtrema or a super black eagle. 0 -
For trap/skeet/bird hunting the Browning. For competition shoots (where split seconds counts) the Benelli.
If I knew then, what I know now.0 -
I don't own a browning gold, but I do own 2 benelli's. I can say this, I shot 4000rnds in 3 days in Argentina on a dove safari, with not one single jam or malfunction. This was with very light loads. Yes they do come with stock shims to adjust the drop for any shooter as well. I havn't had any problems with the dealers, probably because I havn't had any problems with the guns. A word of advise though, deal with benelli, not the store. Just give them a call and they are more than happy to deal with you. We have ordered parts directly from them and they were sent out in the mail that day.
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0
