DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SHOTGUNS
At work I run the classifieds section and the boss is coming up with a scheme for allowing guns. As goofy as this sounds, previously the woman just determined if a gun could be published by what it sounded like it was. She tried to tell me today that Winchester 1200 was not able to be published because it didn't SOUND like a hunting gun. I had to correct her of course. Anyway, she asked me to come up with a very SIMPLE set of guidelines.
Allow all hunting rifles and shotguns.
Do not allow assault rifles, pistols, and shotguns not designed for hunting.
Since I don't own and "Defending" shotguns, I do not know how to limit it. I was thinking by barrel length. What is the shortest a typical shotgun barrel is? I could just make that the limit for hunting guns and everything shorter could be considered non-hunting shotgun. Or I could also use magazine capacity for a guidelines for the shotguns. WHAT LENGTH AND/OR MAG CAPACITY WOULD YOU USE AS A GUIDELINE FOR SHOTGUNS?

21 INCHES WOULD BE THE BARREL LENGHT FOR A HUNTING SHOTGUN. BUY WHY THE FUSS?? QUITE AND GET A JOB WITH A GOOD FUTURE. ANY ONE THAT WILL NOT ALLOW ADS BECAUSE OF A GUN DESIGN CAN'T BE MUCH OF A COMPANY.

alot of shotguns used in cowboy action shooting have 18 1/2 inch barrels and most hunting guns are 21 inches and longer,, maybe you could use what your state fish and game department uses? I'm sure they have guide lines printed 0 -
All shotguns are designed for sport and/or hunting. Some of the designs have been adapted for self defense but they are still usable in their intended design function. Tell your boss that the only shotgun that she should not list (given her criteria - which is wrong but it isn't my paper) is something called "The Street Sweeper"
If you insist on using barrel length as a criteria, don't accept any ads for shotguns with less than an 18 inch barrel.

I have enjoyed shooting skeet and clay targets for
years with a Rem. 870 with 18 inch barrel.

Don't most turkey shotguns have 20 or 18 inch barrels? Mabye you should define it not by the barrel but by if it has a pistol grip or not. Hope this helps.

Times are becoming unreal,I live in VA.and you are aloud to advertise for sale anything not perverted.But it appears to me that the word GUN is becomeing a four letter word to alot of ears!!

Wouldn't it make the most sense to correctly point out that any legal shotgun can be used for sporting purposes. And just as legal beverages can be enjoyed properly or abused, so can most other things... Shotguns included.
Illegal guns are the same as anything else. Your boss doesn't advertise for illegal drug dealers. Your boss doesn't promote illegal activities. Not advertising illegal firearms is quite understandable...
And yet I'll bet money that I could easily place an ad in her paper for something like a full auto kit for a A-5 with no trouble at all. Or maybe a silencer. You know, I know, and anyone interested in guns knows that a little creative language will get by all but the most savy censor.
I'm betting that she's not that smart!
